“Trick or treat!”

You’re jolted out of what you were doing by the excited voices outside. Your porch light isn’t even on…

… but that hasn’t done a single thing to deter the joyous chorus from the Neopets on your doorstep.

Opening the door when it becomes abundantly clear that the hopeful little group won’t be going anywhere, you’re met by three – no, four – expectant faces. Or, well, you assume the Neopet under the Esophagor costume is just as optimistic as its friends. Before you can say anything, the baby Gelert drops his bag of Halloween candy and gasps, “You’re the last house on the block and we don’t have nearly enough candy to split! Don’t tell us you didn’t stock up for trick or treaters…”

The Ruki holds their hand higher, their Motere friend looking equally as disappointed from her perch. Behind them, the mini Esophagor droops melodramatically. You start to explain that you don’t have anything, but the dejected moping from the group of trick-or-treaters quickly changes your mind. You don’t have the heart to turn them away.

At the very first sign of hope, the Motere blinks up at you with her huge eyes. “Oh, do say you’ll help us get our candy! We spent weeks on our costumes an’ an’ an’ spended all our allowances an’ an’ waited for ever and ever an’ an’ –”

Before she can get properly going, the Esophagor shuffles up to the Ruki and a sheet-covered protrusion tugs at one of their bandages. Keeping their hand up so the little Motere can keep expounding on how hard they all worked, they lean down to listen to what their friend has to say. They nod, and then pull the Gelert into a huddle, saying over their shoulder as they do so, “Our friend is really shy, so ‘scuse us!”

Soon, all four little Neopets are having an intense discussion, punctuated by giggles. After a bit the Ruki turns back to you with a triumphant look on their face. “Okay, here’s the deal: you find some candy, and in return, we’ll ask some of our spookysweet friends to come say hi and maybe move in. Yeah?”
